There is a goodly amount of news for fans of the Prince of Persia franchise. Not only is there news about the upcoming game for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC, but the first interviews about the 2010 movie are starting to trickle in.
The movie will be based upon the events from the first installment of the game, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and will star Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince Dastan. Gyllenhaal has avoided talking specifics about the film, but has talked quite a lot about his preparation for the role. He told Entertainment Tonight: “I guess I’ve gotten buff. I over-prepared myself because I never knew how much they were going to ask me to do.” He later added his doubts about keeping up his now buff physique after shooting stops. “It’s going to turn into fat, and I’m going to be happy.” There's not a lot more on the movie at this time, but make sure to check back in frequently. As the film comes together for the May 2010 premiere we'll keep you posted.
The new Prince of Persia game has gone gold. For those of you not familiar with gaming industry terminology, that doesn't have anything to do with how many copies it's sold, it means that the game is completely finished and has gone into production. The game is set to be shipped on December 2nd for a December 5th release date. This latest installment of the highly popular fantasy series centering on a 6th century Persian Prince will not be a continuation of the events from the prior games. Instead it will be a re-imagining or alternate story. There will be no “Sands of Time” to rewind time as with the previous games. In this game the Prince will have a constant female companion, Elika, as he fights the forces of darkness. Despite there being two main characters the game will still be a single player adventure. Ubisoft, however, has said that the game will feature a “skin” that will allow players to play as Altair from the hit game Assassin's Creed.
