Chronicles of Narnia fans-the news you've been waiting for is here! Twentieth Century Fox is partnering with Walden Media for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the third Narnia fillm. To the dismay of fans everywhere, Disney dropped the film in late December and until now the future of Dawn Treader has been a question mark. One of the important question marks still left about the fate of this movie is its production schedule, which leads to what we all really want to know-when will we get to see it?
Fox and Walden Media are still working out script and budget issues but they're hoping at this point to film at the end of this summer and have Voyage of the Dawn Treader in theatres the holiday season of 2010.
Fox and Walden Media will be splitting the costs for the movie, which we believe will go into production with a $140 million budget-much less than Prince Caspian's $215 million budget. This is probably due in part to the steep decline at the box office between the first and second Narnia films-from $745 million worldwide to $419 million. Prince Caspian's box office numbers are still NOT bad at the box office annd was in fact ranked number 10 at the global box office for 2008. Prince Caspian was considered the least marketable of the Narnia stories, and Voyage of the Dawn Treader is expected to draw a bigger family crowd and focus more on the magic of Narnia. Another change for filming The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be location. Previously the movie was to be shot in Mexico, but will probably be moving to Australia due to violence in the Baja area. Now is a good time for Narnia fans everywhere to take that deep breath of relief. Their movie it on it's way! Some concept art for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader can be seen here for people looking for more of a Narnia fix.
