Fans of the Underworld films now have something to hold them over other than gossip. Screen Gems has released the first official trailer for Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. This film will be the third in the franchise, and will be a prequel to the first two films.
For those familiar with the first two installments there will be plenty of familiar faces. Underworld creator, Kevin Grevioux will reprise his role as the Lycan (werewolf) Raze; Michael Sheen will return as the Lycan leader Lucian, and Bill Nighy will once again play the Death Dealer (vampire) king, Marcus. New to the cast will be Rhona Mitra playing Sonja, the Death Dealer who falls in love with a Lycan. Underworld: RotL will be giving more detail to the story of Sonja and Lucian that was a main plot driver in the first Underworld movie. It was their forbidden love that sparked the war between the Lycans and Death Dealers when once the Lycans had been the slave protectors of the Death Dealers. Little more is known about the plot, but there is still plenty of time for spoilers before the January 23, 2009 release date.
