For those waiting for the next great fantasy themed movie to hit the theaters, you need not wait very long. While not a magical sword and sorcery fantasy tale, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button should definitely satiate the hunger for something not quite of this world.
The movie stars Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, and Tilda Swinton and is already the focus of quite a lot of Oscar buzz even though it won't hit theaters until December 25th. Early reviews of the movie look mostly positive and the trailer is intriguing (see below). It evokes a feeling very similar to that of the movie Big Fish.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is based on the short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald and follows a man who ages in reverse. Benjamin (Pitt) is born the size of a normal baby, but has all the physical ailments and problems of an 80 year old man. Throughout the course of his life he continues to grow younger until he is a normal infant. This of course presents problems when romance comes into play. Benjamin becomes smitten with a ballet dancer named Alice (Blanchett), and tries to pursue an impossible relationship with her.
