Narnia: A New Age Has Begun

by Faith McKay

It’s hard to believe it, but on May 16th the second Narnia film, Prince Caspian, will be released! To me, it looks as though the sequel will be better than the original, which is a rare occurrence.

In “Prince Caspian”, we find the Pevensie children a year later leading semi normal lives before they are pulled back into the land of Narnia. Time in Narnia passes differently than it does in our world, and the children discover a thousand years have passed since they were there last. But that is not the only thing they discover. King Miraz, an evil king, has taken over and the children set out on a journey with a few heroic friends to find Prince Caspian, and return him to his rightful place on the throne.

The film’s tagline is “A New Age Has Begun” and the trailer gives me that feeling. We have new characters and the children are older and looking more like they are ready for a fight. Speaking of new characters, Prince Caspian himself is played by Ben Barnes, who some may recognize as the young Dunstan Thorn from Stardust, this is his first major role in a film. If his face is not yet familiar, it should be soon! As a large portion of both of the Narnia films have been filmed in New Zeland, the country now has Narnia stamps! You can purchase the stamps on the New Zealand post website.

Whether you are a devoted Narnia series fan, or a newcomer to the series altogether, Prince Caspian looks promising, and is expected to by many to be the film of the summer.
