Twilight

by Faith McKay

The film “Twilight” is not due for release until December 12th, but already fans are getting excited, and most newspaper articles seem to be expecting the film to be a hit.

Twilight was Stephenie Meyer’s first novel, a tale of love, and vampires. In an interview I read recently with Meyers on her Amazon page, she was asked if she had seen much of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel. Actually, Meyers has seen and read few vampire tales! Her sister, who helped proofread Twilight while she was writing it, is a huge Buffy fan and tried to convert Stephenie Meyers, but Meyers wanted to keep her idea of how vampires should be in the Twilight world pure, which in turn gave fantasy fans a unique vampire story. The book takes place in Forks, Washington, where a teenage girl named Bella has just moved. Shortly after, she meets Edward and the two fall in love. Bella later discovers Edward’s secret, his nonhuman status, and the story unveils from there.

To Meyer’s surprise and delight Twilight has done very well and the Twilight series is expecting its fourth novel, Breaking Dawn, to be coming out on August 2nd. According to the Twilight Lexicon selected Borders locations will be having midnight release parties for the book upon its release.

The release of Breaking Dawn isn’t all Twilight fans have to be excited about right now. The Twilight movie is currently being filmed in Washington State (where the books actually take place), with stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson as Isabella Swan and Edward Cullen. You should recognize Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory from the Harry Potter films. There have been numerous postings of photos from the set of Twilight popping up around the internet, those interested should check out a series of exclusive photos from shocktillyoudrop.com. ETonline.com has also posted a short video with behind the scenes footage from the film

As I mentioned earlier, the film is not scheduled to premiere until December 12th, this gives fans a long time to sit and stir, and people who are new to the Twilight series time to read the book before the movie’s release and become one of the many fans in line come December 12th.
